Fabrizio Romano says star wants to join Spurs – Rules out Arsenal move

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are the only English club currently negotiating with Bologna to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Tomiyasu has been heavily linked with a move for to Spurs over the past few weeks, with multiple sources (Corriere di Bologna and Sky Sports) indicating that Fabio Paratici is in talks with Bologna for the Japanese international.

It was even reported last week that Tottenham had made two offers for the versatile defender and were close to reaching an agreement with Bologna.

However, Italian publication Il Resto del Carlino claimed a few days ago that Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal could make a late push for Tomiyasu, with Mikel Arteta viewing the Bologna defender as a potential replacement for Hector Bellerin (via The Spurs Web).

However, Romano has now rubbished those claims, revealing that Atalanta are Tottenham’s only challengers for centre-back.

The journalist also stated that Tomiyasu is keen on joining the Lilywhites and is expected to make a final decision soon.

If it is true that we are on the verge of sealing Tomiyasu’s signing, that would be a solid start to the transfer window. It would also indicate that Paratici means business and is wasting no time trying to address the squad’s deficiencies.

I believe the 22-year-old’s arrival would also be a huge indication that Nuno primarily plans to employ a back three next season.
