Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham are not in talks for Premier League attacker

Tottenham Hotspur are not in negotiations over Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Tottenham were reportedly interested in facilitating a move for Traore back in January before Barcelona stole a march and secured his services on a six-month loan deal.

The La Liga side had the option to sign him permanently for £25million plus add-ons (The Guardian), but they opted against activating it in the end (AS).

The Spanish forward has since returned to Wolves but is expected to leave this summer with his current contract expiring at the end of the season (The Independent).

West Ham United and Everton have been linked with a potential move for Traore as they look to bolster their respective ranks (Express & Star and Football Insider).

It was suggested that Spurs could reignite their interest in striking a deal for the 26-year-old in this transfer window (GiveMeSport).

Bruno Lage recently conveyed that they are willing to sell Traore if potential suitors come with the right offer (The Independent).

However, Romano has now revealed that the North Londoners have no plans to target Traore this summer. He added that Spurs’ focus currently lies on moving players out despite being close to reaching a verbal agreement for the attacker at the start of this year.

Romano wrote in his CaughtOffside Substack column, “Traore was one step away from joining Spurs in January – the deal was almost completed on a verbal basis but collapsed because Barcelona acted behind the scenes thanks to Xavi.

“So far this summer there are no negotiations with Tottenham. Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte are now focused on outgoings after bringing in a lot of new players; I think Adama is a player to be monitored for many clubs until the end of August as an opportunity.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

We are well-stacked in terms of our options in positions where Traore has made a career for himself so far. Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura will compete on the right wing, while Antonio Conte has Matt Doherty, Djed Spence and Emerson Royal to choose from for the right wing-back role.

As such, we are not desperate for Traore at this moment, with our focus understandably being on parting ways with departure-bound stars like Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele. Harry Winks and Sergio Reguilon (The Athletic).
