Fabrizio Romano says we will have to wait and see if Spurs return for target this summer

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that a few clubs have expressed an interest in rumoured Tottenham target Edmond Taspoba but revealed that Bayer Leverkusen have not set an asking price for the centre-back yet.

Tapsoba was linked with a move to Tottenham last summer (Guardian) but the North London club decided to secure Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg instead, with the Dutchman turning out to be a revelation in N17.

It was revealed by the print edition of to the print edition of SportBILD (via Sport Witness) back in February that Spurs could reignite their interest in the 25-year-old this summer.

The report claimed that Ange Postecoglou’s men would be joined in the race for the player by Chelsea, who are also intent on strengthening at the back.

However, it was made clear that neither London club will find it easy to sign the centre-back, with the Bundesliga champions expected to demand top dollar for the Burkina Faso international.

Man United are looking at Edmond Tapsoba

Romano has now said that Man Utd are one among three top clubs who have been scouting Tapsoba recently, with the journalist suggesting that the defender could be on the move this summer.

He noted that Spurs have also been keen on the centre-back in the past but explained that Xabi Alonso’s men have not settled on an asking price for the player so far.

Romano told CaughtOffside: “Scouts from three top clubs were in attendance to watch Edmond Tapsoba in yesterday’s game for Bayer Leverkusen away to Borussia Dortmund. The centre-back looks like he could be one to watch for this summer as he’s attracting interest, though it’s still early in this story.

“As I previously reported, Manchester United want a centre-back this summer and they’re one of the clubs who’ve previously looked at Tapsoba. They’ve been scouting Tapsoba for a long time, but they also have a long list of names, as previously mentioned, such as Jean-Clair Todibo, Antonio Silva, Gleison Bremer and Jarrad Branthwaite.

“Tottenham also showed an interest in Tapsoba in the past, but let’s see if they enter the running again. Bayer Leverkusen have not decided a specific price yet.”

Spurs Web Opinion

With Tapsoba contracted until 2028 to Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso’s men are going to demand a huge fee for the centre-back this summer. If Tottenham are to raid Alonso’s men for a centre-back, it is more likely to be Piero Hincapie than Tapsoba this summer.
