Fabrizio Romano shares his understanding of Tottenham’s stance on Nuno Espirito Santo

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Nuno Espirito Santo still has the support of the Tottenham hierarchy despite the team’s recent struggles.

Tottenham’s loss against West Ham was the fourth London derby loss of the season for the Lilywhites, who were also beaten by Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal earlier in the campaign.

The 1-0 loss at the London Stadium saw the North London club fall to sixth place in the table, with 15 points on the board after their first 9 top flight games.

Some reports have indicated that Nuno is coming under pressure at Spurs, with his decision to use a two-tier squad for the Europa Conference League and Premier League said to have caused a chasm in the dressing room.

However, Romano has now said in the latest episode of the Here We Go Podcast (starting at 15:25) that the Portuguese coach is not facing the threat of losing his job for now.

The journalist revealed that while Spurs are disappointed by their loss in the London derby on Sunday, the club are still ‘protecting’ Nuno.

The Italian claimed that the Tottenham hierarchy are interested to see how the players respond against Manchester United on Saturday.

He also suggested that the North London club are aware that the team are in a ‘process’ and that they are not going to be able to compete for major honours immediately.

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite the extreme reaction by some Spurs fans on social media, I do believe there has been some improvement under Nuno over the past few weeks. I do not think our performance against West Ham was as bad as it is being made out.

David Moyes’ men defended with men behind the ball and there was little space for our attacking players to operate. We would have likely walked away with a win had we scored the first goal. It just so happened that they scored the opener through a set piece.
