Fabrizio Romano suggests hints at transfer ‘domino’ involving Tottenham this summer

The goalkeeping situation at Tottenham Hotspur situation looks set to change for the first time in over a decade this summer.

Fabrizio Romano has taken to OnAmp to reveal that a ‘goalkeepers domino’ effect could take place with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez potentially on the move.

Romano said: “There is a possibility that Emi Martínez could change clubs due to ‘goalkeepers domino’ this summer. Look at English clubs including Chelsea, Tottenham.”

90 min reported earlier this year that Martinez is on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Hugo Lloris in the summer.

Martinez, 30, spent eight years at Arsenal, with just 38 appearances in all competitions to show for his time at the club (transfermarkt) but has since gone on to establish himself as a number one at Villa Park and played a pivotal part in Argentina’s World Cup triumph in the winter.

Current Tottenham number one Hugo Lloris has admitted that he is interested in leaving the club this summer to explore other opportunities in what he labelled as ‘the end of an era’.

The 36-year-old retired from international duty with France in January, one year after signing a contract extension that would keep him at Spurs through to the end of next season.

He told French news outlet Nice-Matin: “We are coming to an important moment, whether for the club or for me. It’s the end of an era. I have desires for other things, I will ask myself quietly to study what will be possible.

“But I don’t forget that I still have a year of contract with Tottenham and that in football it is always difficult to predict what will happen. What is essential at the moment is to recover well from my injury. I’m on vacation but I continue to talk and do my training. My goal is to be on top in July, then we’ll see what the future holds.”

Lloris injured himself in the first half of Tottenham’s 6-1 defeat at Newcastle United last month with some assuming that he may have already played his last game for the club (Daily Mail), with Fraser Forster having proven himself as an able deputy.

Hugo Lloris has been a brilliant servant for Tottenham over the past ten years and has given the prime of his career to the club, however, this summer signals a needed change for both the player and the north Londoners.

Football has evolved since Lloris has moved to N17 and while there is no disputing his shot-stopping ability, Tottenham now need a goalkeeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and is able to play out from the back.
