Fabrizio Romano thinks 53-year-old manager is now ‘waiting for Tottenham’

Fabrizio Romano has a feeling that Luis Enrique is now waiting for a call from Tottenham Hotspur.

If reports over the last 48 hours are to be believed, Ange Postecoglou has now emerged as Tottenham‘s top target to replace Antonio Conte at the helm.

In fact, The Sun even reported on Thursday morning that the Australian is keen on taking the job in N17 and that Celtic will not stand in his way if he chooses to go south of the border.

The report asserted that Spurs could even confirm the 57-year-old as their next head coach as early as next week.

However, other outlets have contradicted this claim, with The Telegraph revealing on Thursday evening that Tottenham are yet to make a final decision on their top candidate for the role.

The publication stated that along with Postecoglou, Enrique and Fulham boss Marco Silva are also currently in consideration by the North London club.

Napoli’s owner and chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis admitted to Rai Sport earlier this week that when he approached Enrique, the Spaniard made it clear that he wants to manage in the Premier League.

Romano believes that De Laurentiis’s statement means that the former Barcelona boss is now waiting for Spurs.

The journalist said on the Here We Go Podcast: “I would keep an eye on Luis Enrique until the end, he has been in talks with Napoli, but he told Napoli that he is attracted by a Premier League option, so I feel that Luis Enrique is waiting for Tottenham now.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Just like with the Julian Nagelsmann and Arne Slot saga, some Spurs fans seem to be convinced that Postecoglou is Tottenham’s number one target and that the club have already laid the groundwork for a deal for the Australian.

However, in reality, the media outlets might be getting ahead of themselves and the deal might not be as advanced as it is being reported. I certainly would not be surprised if Tottenham did a U-turn and pursued Enrique over the Celtic boss.
