Fabrizio Romano thinks it will be ‘very very difficult’ for Spurs to sign midfielder

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Tottenham are keen on securing Ederson this summer but insisted that it is going to be extremely challenging to get the midfielder out of Atalanta this summer.

It is no secret that Ange Postecoglou wishes to secure a new number six this summer, with reports indicating that Tottenham have already started looking around Europe for defensive midfielders.

Earlier this month, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold suggested the same, naming Ederson as one of the options that Spurs had identified as a player who could compete with Yves Bissouma for a place in the starting eleven next season.

Reports over the last couple of weeks have indicated that the Lilywhites are expected to face competition from both Atletico Madrid (Marca) and Barcelona (Mundo Deportivo) for the Brazilian’s signature this summer.

Spurs will find it hard to sign Ederson this summer

However, Romano has pointed out that since Atalanta are expected to sell Teun Koopmeiners this summer, the Bergamo club would not want to lose another one of their top midfielders during the same window.

He told GiveMeSport: “Ederson is going to be very, very difficult because Atalanta are already expected to sell Teun Koopmeiners in the midfield, and Koopmeiners and Ederson are the two starters for Atalanta. So to sell two crucial players in the same position, in the same summer, I think it’s very unlikely.

“So there is an appreciation, it’s true, that Tottenham appreciate the player, as do many other clubs around Europe. For example, it is the same for Barcelona and other clubs in England. But at the moment, I think it’s going to be difficult to sign the player from Atalanta.”

Atalanta can be quite difficult to negotiate with and they tend to demand top dollar for the players. With Ederson contracted with the club until 2026 and with no shortage of interest in his services, the Serie A club could ask for upwards of £50m for the midfielder.
