Fabrizio Romano thinks Spurs will sign player to a new contract without any issues

According to Fabrizio Romano, getting Heung-min Son to sign a new contract will not be an issue for Tottenham Hotspur, as the skipper is very happy with how things are going at the club right now.

Son is now one of the longest-serving members of the Tottenham squad, having joined the club way back in 2015.

He was named club captain by Ange Postecoglou last summer, and it’s safe to say the South Korean has flourished with this newfound responsibility, becoming an incredible leader on and off the field.

Son is heading into the final 12 months of his current contract at Tottenham, but it is thought the club are keen to ‘progress discussions’ on a new deal with their star man and have made this a ‘key target’ for the summer (HITC).

That report cited the ‘blossoming relationship’ between Son and Postecoglou, and his enjoyment of the developing project at the club, as the reason why a new contract should not be difficult to negotiate.

Sonny wants to stay at Spurs

And Fabrizio Romano has reiterated this in his latest appearance on The Spurs Chat podcast.

When asked if any progress has been made, Romano said: “Not yet. At the moment I’m not aware of something imminent, but it’s a similar situation to Ange Postecoglou. The relationship is excellent, so they are not in a hurry. He is super happy to see what’s going on at Tottenham.

“This is the best news for the club, Son can see that the club is moving in the right direction with a good connection between the manager and the club. Son can see the project and how it’s evolving.”

Discussing the likelihood of a contract agreement, Romano added: “I don’t think the contract is going to be a problem because the relationship between his agents and the club is also excellent.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would imagine this new contract for Sonny will be one of the first things we announce this summer once the season is over. It’s very likely Son will commit the rest of his playing days to Spurs now.
