Lucas Bergvall has impressed at Tottenham

Bergvall has surprised many with how he has seamlessly adapted to the demands of top-level football since his summer switch to Spurs.

The 18-year-old was one of the club’s standout players during pre-season and has impressed in his three cameos off the bench in the Premier League so far.

On the back of those performances for Tottenham, the teenager was called up to the Swedish national side and he earned his second cap on Thursday as Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men began their Nations League campaign with a 3-1 win over Azerbaijan.

Bergvall receives harsh criticism

Bergvall came on as a substitute for debutant Alex Douglas in the 72nd minute in Baku and failed to make much of an impact, and his display was not too kindly received by the media.

Fotballskanalen said of the midfielder: “Tried to deal with the ball and be fearless. Failed at everything. Didn’t accomplish much.”

Meanwhile, Svenska Fans gave the Spurs man a rating of just two out of five wrote: “Wanted to do a lot but didn’t have time to get everything out. Alert.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Perhaps Bergvall was quite nervous, given the pressure that comes with representing your country.

It is important to remember that the midfielder only turned 18 earlier this year and is still learning the ropes at the highest level.
