Fans call for Dele ban

According to an article in The Mirror a plethora of football fans are calling for Dele Alli to be banned after he ‘dived’ to win a penalty in Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Burnley.

The article describes how the England international went down relatively easily under a Kevin Long challenge in the area, and referee Michael Oliver didn’t hesitate in pointing to the spot.

The article adds that Harry Kane then stepped up to the plate and converted the subsequent spot-kick to give Tottenham the lead at Turf Moor.

Speaking on BT Sport, former Premier League referee Graham Poll claimed Alli had been fouled and the decision was fair.
He said: “I agree absolutely, Michael Oliver has called that correctly”It’s not just a knee on knee, the arm has come in as well, he’s definitely been impeded, it’s a good decision.”

Pundit for the game Steven Gerrard agreed, adding: “Kevin Long is late and slow and he gives the referee a decision to make. There is contact with the knee.”

However fans on Twitter were less convinced, and many took to the social media platform to suggest Alli should be hit with a retrospective ban.One wrote: “If Alli isn’t banned for that dive then it’s a disgrace. Long never touched him,” while another added: “Woeful decision from the referee there. Need Alli banned for that dive.”
