Tottenham Hotspur were made to work hard for three points by newly promoted Aston Villa in their first game of the new Premier League season.
The visitors took the lead early in the game to shock the over 60,000 people in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Villa then defended resolutely to keep Spurs at bay until half time. After halftime, Tottenham started to fashion more chances thanks to a tactical tweak as gaps started appearing in the Villa backline.
Spurs eventually equalized through a well-taken goal by new signing Tanguy Ndombele, before Harry Kane scored two in the last five minutes to put the game beyond doubt.
After the game, Harry Kane, Toby Alderweireld and Kyle Walker-Peters all took to Twitter to convey their delight at the win. Walker-Peters and Kane also congratulated new boy Tanguy Ndombele on a great debut:

Having to come back from a goal down showed that the team’s mentality and fitness is spot on coming into the season. The game against Manchester City next weekend is huge as it will set the precedent for the season and show how Pochettino’s men compare to the Premier League champions.
