‘Fantastic boy’ – Hojbjerg left impressed by new Spurs signing in training

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has admitted that Richarlison has made a fantastic impression on his Tottenham teammates in his first couple of months at the club.

After some impressive cameos off the bench in the first five Premier League games of the campaign, Richarlison was deservedly handed a start against Fulham on Saturday alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

The Brazilian certainly did not disappoint as he proved a nuisance for the Cottagers backline throughout the 90 minutes, showing fantastic energy on and off the ball.

The 25-year-old hit the woodwork in the second half and he thought he had scored his first goal for Spurs in stoppage time only for VAR to rule that he had been offside in the build-up.

Richarlison was awarded the Player of the Match on Saturday and Hojbjerg lavished praise on the debutant for his display. The Dane spoke in glowing terms about the former Everton man’s never-say-die attitude and willingness to work hard for the team.

Hojbjerg told SpursPlay following the 2-1 win: “Richy’s fantastic, Richy is amazing. I’m happy that he is playing for Spurs. ( I enjoy) training with him as well, against him. Fantastic boy, a fantastic mindset, crazy but in a good way. He really deserves what comes his way, but he has to stay focused and concentrated, but well done to him.

“In the end (of the game against Fulham), I put a long long ball down in the corner and he got a throw-in. I know these are small details and in the end, does not make a great or small player but he is going to chase whatever is coming his way. You saw that again today.

“The way he goes around with the ball, his positioning. I’m gutted he didn’t get the goal in the end but doesn’t take anything away from him or his performance. He still has a lot to learn but we are happy to have him here at Tottenham and he needs to keep improving.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Richarlison’s engine and dynamism adds a different dimension to our frontline. On the back of the 25-year-old’s performance on Saturday, Conte has a very difficult choice to make regarding who to start against Marseille and Manchester City as Kulusevski has also been impressive this campaign.
