‘Fantastic from him’ – Pundit left impressed by player Spurs fans have hardly seen

Tottenham Hotspur were forced into a change during the opening minutes of the second half at Villa Park yesterday afternoon.

Micky van de Ven who was arguably Tottenham’s best performer during the opening forty-five minutes of Tottenham’s 4-0 win against Aston Villa, having made a number of important tackles while utilising his jet-heeled ability to eat up the ground.

Unfortunately, the Dutchman had to be replaced on 49 minutes after suffering another hamstring issue, however, he did not appear to be in the same discomfort compared to the injury he sustained back in November at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Chelsea.

Dragusin, who had been limited to just eight minutes of football in Tottenham’s first team squad since joining from Genoa in January put in an assured display alongside Cristian Romero (transfermarkt).

Radu Dragusin proved he can fill in for the injured Micky van de Ven

The Romanian’s performance caught the eye of fellow central defender Conor Coady, who was impressed with what he saw.

Villa tested the 22-year-old soon after he came on with a ball in behind the defence which Dragusin showed great composure to deal with the threat.

England international Coady, who was on punditry duty for BBC Radio Five Live said: “We said when van de Ven went off, does it affect the way Tottenham do things? We know they don’t want to change. But at the same time he’s come on and the ball in behind to start off with and that bit of defending there was fantastic from him.”

Considering Dragusin was made to warm up at Villa Park during the half time break certainly hints to the fact that van de Ven may have felt some discomfort in his muscle during the latter stages of the opening half.

Villa were heavily reliant on their game plan of trying to play the ball long to Ollie Watkins and try to expose Cristian Romero or Dragusin, but Tottenham certainly coped with the threat and put their Champions League rivals to the sword in the second half.
