‘Fantastic manager’ – Former Spurs striker suggests surprise candidate for job

Bobby Zamora has urged Tottenham Hotspur to appoint Marcelo Bielsa as the club’s next manager.

Since Jose Mourinho was sacked by Spurs three weeks ago, a whole host of names have been mooted for the vacant role.

Some sources suggest that Tottenham have been approached by intermediaries of close to 20 top managers, but that the North Londoners are in no hurry to make an appointment and would only do so at the end of the season.

One name who has not been mentioned as a target for the club is Bielsa, who has transformed Leeds United since arriving at Elland Road three years ago.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara admitted last month that he too would like to see Bielsa at N17.

Leeds have won plenty of admirers for their exciting, front-foot approach this season, something Tottenham saw first hand on Sunday during their 3-1 loss at Elland Road.

Zamora believes that the Argentine would be a very good fit for the profile of manager Spurs are looking for.

He told Stadium Astro (as relayed by HITC): “Why wouldn’t you go and get him (Bielsa)? In terms of the fans I think they’d love to see that attacking style of football, that passion.

“He produced the goods at Leeds and no disrespect to them, those players haven’t got the quality Spurs do. They have the organisation, the work rate, the desire that’s been installed in them by Bielsa.

“I think he’s a fantastic manager and if they were going to get somebody, I don’t think they should look much further than Bielsa.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Bielsa would get us playing entertaining football, his style of play is not conducive to maximising results. I believe we would be less likely to get into the top four under the Argentine as we would concede quite a lot of goals. That is part of the reason why Bielsa has not really been employed by clubs who have ambitions of competing at the top end of their respective leagues.
