‘Fantastic player’ – Striker hints that he wants Spurs star to join his club

Ajax striker Brian Brobbey has admitted he hopes the Eredivisie giants manage to pull off the signing of Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn.

Bergwijn has struggled for minutes under Antonio Conte at Spurs and has not been helped by injuries

The 24-year-old is reportedly surplus to requirements at Tottenham, with the North London club thought to be looking to cash in on him before the end of the month (Fabrizio Romano).

90 Min report that Newcastle United are interested in the Tottenham man, while Lazio have been mentioned by TuttoMercatoWeb, but it is Ajax who appear to be leading the race for Bergwijn.

De Telegraaf claim the Dutch club have a £15m offer turned down for the winger and are said to be ready to return with a second offer worth around £20m (Ekrem Konur).

Brobbey, who returned to Ajax on loan from RB Leipzig this month, admitted that he would love to see Bergwijn come to the Johan Cruyff Arena.

The striker told NOS: “Bergwijn is a fantastic player. So (the squad) is only getting better. Good competition. Very nice.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Brobbey’s words indicate that he perhaps expects Bergwijn’s move to Ajax to go through. However, I worry that Conte will be short of attacking options if the Dutchman leaves, particularly given that Spurs do not appear to be close to making any attacking addition.
