Father of reported Spurs target speaks on player’s future

The father of Fiorentina star Riccardo Sottil, who is reportedly on the radar of Tottenham has now spoken out on the winger’s future.

Calcio Mercato reported a few weeks ago that Spurs have already sent a scout to cast an eye over Sottil this season ahead of a possible summer move for the youngster.

The 20-year-old who can play on either flank as well as centrally in the middle of the park has started getting more opportunities in the Fiorentina first team this season after impressing on loan at Pescara last campaign.

While he had an impressive start to the campaign, the wide man has found himself out of the La Viola side in recent weeks as they fight to stay in Serie A, with Fiorentina head coach Beppe Iachini insisting recently that Sottil doesn’t have the defensive discipline needed for a relegation fight.

However, the youngster’s father, Andrea Sottil, who was himself a former Fiorentina player has insisted that his son is committed to the club.

He told Firenze Viola: “Riccardo had many chances to leave, but he chose to stay in Florence.

“He must work to be ready when (coach Beppe) Iachini calls him, as he is doing. It is necessary to make himself available to the coach, but things are going well.”

Just because we have been scouting him doesn’t, of course, mean that an offer is imminent for him in the summer. He is likely one of just many players whose progress we are following. At the moment, we are fairly well stocked for attacking midfielders and the priority in the summer has to be defensive additions and a back up to Harry Kane.
