‘Feel like a footballer again’ – Tottenham man enjoys first game for loan club

Sergio Reguilon has taken to social media to express his delight at returning to the field after seven months out.

A groin injury kept Reguilon out of action for the first couple of months of the season after his loan switch to Atletico Madrid in the summer. The Spaniard recovered from the injury and started training with his new teammates a few weeks ago but he continued to warm the bench for the La Liga side.

Marca even suggested earlier this week that Diego Simione is not convinced by the on-loan Spurs star, which is why he has not featured since returning to fitness.

The report stated that the 25-year-old was a ‘surprise signing’ and that Simeone preferred Marcos Alonso to replace Renan Lodi, and only settled for Reguilon after Barcelona won the race for the former Chelsea man.

Reguilon was finally handed his debut for Atletico on Wednesday, replacing Reinildo Mandava in the 69th minute as the Colchoneros fell to a 1-0 defeat away at Mallorca.

The Spain international expressed his frustration at the result but admitted that it was a great feeling to be out on the pitch after so long.

The left-back’s Instagram post read: “I feel like football player again after 7 months. F**ked by the defeat and the team situation, but excited for my @atleticodemadrid debut and looking forward to helping the team out.”

Despite his struggles to adapt to the wing-back role, Reguilon always gave his all for Spurs and seemed to be very popular in the dressing room.  So, I am sure that all Tottenham fans want to see the 25-year-old succeed and will be hoping that he is able to have a strong second half of the season at the Metropolitano Stadium.
