‘Feels odd’ – Jermaine Jenas questions Spurs decision to sell player after recent events

Jermaine Jenas has questioned whether Arnaut Danjuma is the sort of player that Tottenham need in this transfer window, suggesting that other positions should have been bigger priorities for the club to address.

The developments of Tuesday evening took everyone by surprise as it emerged that Tottenham had hijacked Everton’s move to sign Danjuma after the forward had completed a medical at Goodison Park (The Athletic).

It did not take long for Spurs to finalise the transfer, with the club announcing yesterday that the 25-year-old had joined on loan from Villarreal until the end of the season.

The Dutchman is capable of playing on the left, as a centre-forward or as a second striker and his addition thus gives Antonio Conte plenty of options upfront.

However, Jenas questioned the logic of signing Danjuma on loan after Spurs let go of a similar attacker in Steven Bergwijn last summer.

The former Tottenham midfielder also suggested that reinforcements in goal, at centre-back, midfield and wing-back, were all more pressing requirements than another forward.

I can see where Jenas is coming from but the reality is that Conte has been quite clear that he does not see additions at centre-back as a priority in this transfer window. It has been well-documented that the Spurs boss wanted an attacker and another right wing-back this window, and that is exactly what he is getting.
