Feyenoord star told to join a club like Tottenham instead of ‘aiming too high’

Amidst speculation linking one Eredivisie attacker with a move to Tottenham, one former Netherlands international is convinced that the player could surprise many if he makes the move to North London.

Feyenoord’s Igor Paixao has seen his name hit the limelight this season, particularly due to his impressive displays in the Champions League.

The winger has scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists so far across all competitions, and it is that sort of elite output that has seemingly brought him to the attention of some of Europe’s biggest sides.

It was reported last month that Tottenham were one of four clubs plotting a summer move for Paixao, with the Lilywhites said to have been left mightily impressed with the 24-year-old’s recent displays.

Dutch legend claims Spurs will be the right fit for Igor Paixao

Former Feyenoord star Eljero Elia named Tottenham Hotspur as the kind of club where Paixao could shine, backing the Brazilain to surprise people before making the leap to a ‘bigger team’.

Elia also opined that this summer would be the perfect time for Feyenoord to cash in on the winger as they can get maximum value.

When asked about the speculation over Paixao’s future, the 38-year-old said 1908.nl: “If they’re smart, they’ll let him go. They can now ask for the top price. This is his third season, right? AC Milan also signed up for Santiago Gimenez because of his goals in Europe. That will also happen with Paixao.

“But he has really grown this season. More consistent, a deadly shot, always threatening and his teammates are increasingly able to find him. Clubs just below the European top, who can surprise.

“Tottenham Hotspur, Napoli, those kinds of teams. He can really be a surprise there. He shouldn’t aim too high, otherwise he might disappear from the scene.”

Do Tottenham need reinforcements out wide?

Timo Werner’s loan spell at Tottenham comes to an end this summer while Richarlison is expected to leave Spurs when the transfer window re-opens.

Additionally, the club are yet to make a decision on whether to sign Mathys Tel permanently, while speculation continues to suggest that Heung-min Son’s spell at Tottenham could come to an end this summer.

Therefore, we could see major changes to the Spurs forward line at the end of the season and Paixao may be one of many options that the club have their eyes on.
