FIFA name team of the World Cup with one glaring omission

FIFA have announced their official team of the tournament and their has been one glaring omission, that of which we will get on to.

Our own World Cup winning captain Hugo Lloris has been chosen in goal. In defence two Englishmen are in the side. Spurs defender Kieran Trippier has been selected after a terrific tournament on the right hand-side as England reached the semi-finals. Manchester United and England veteran Ashley Young also makes it as does Liverpool’s Croatian Star Dejan Lovren and Real Madrid’s France Star Raphael Varane.

The midfield has a touch of Spurs in it too with FIFA putting Croatia captain Luka Modric alongside Spurs former Brazilian Star Paulinho.

In a 4-2-3-1 formation, the trio behind the striker is made up of Chelsea’s Belgium captain Eden Hazard, Atletico Madrid’s French forward Antoine Griezmann and then there is the odd one. A man who spent most of his time getting up close and personal with the pitches in Russia, Brazil and Paris St Germain star Neymar.

And then up top the lone striker, banging in the goals. A revelation for his country this tournament. Yes you’ve guessed it, it is of course….. Kylian MBappe. Yes you read correctly. Harry Kane, the World Cup top scorer has been left out of the official team of the tournament. MBappe deserves a slot as does Hazard and Griezmann but Neymar over Kane? The Brazilian scored twice but was more known for his theatrics.

Harry netted six times, people will argue about the penalties, the deflected shot but he still got six goals but they all count. He got awarded the Golden Boot but FIFA still left him out. What are they on? Perhaps sponsors had their say?

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. I’d have Perisic for Neymar, Fernandes for Young, Isco for Paulinho and Pavard for Lovren. Harry Kane was, quite rightly, not in there. Despite his 6 goals (5 against Tunisia & Panama) he simply wasn’t as good as Perisic, Hazard, Griezmann and Mbappe at this tournament.

  2. As much as I love Harry Kane and what he’s done for us these past 3 seasons, he just wasn’t the same when he came back from his ankle injury, and even Harry himself would agree that from the Columbia game onwards, he really didn’t do enough. Just got to hope that he regains his form and fitness for the new season – August beckons! ;)

  3. I have to agree with Stuart, Harry was nowhere near his best and although he scored six Mbappe was at times brilliant and I think deserved it.

  4. Louven, Paulinho and Young is this a wind-up? Griezmann is just a blatant cheat and should not be in there for football reasons after his cheating antics, why is Neymar on there instead of Kane? the golden boot winner should be in there obviously when Neymar had a very average world cup! i would have Courtois in before Lloris, Vida ahead of Lovren all day, who makes up this list? it’s a joke.
