Finally! Vertonghen is a done deal

Finally! Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Jan Vertonghen.

It has been one of the most prolonged transfer sagas in recent Tottenham history but thankfully we have got our man. We have beaten the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona to land the Ajax central defender and even more pleasing is the fact that he was so determined to move to the Lane. We want players who want to play for the shirt and in Vertonghen we have that.

A statement on the official Spurs site read: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Jan Vertonghen, subject to a medical.

“The 2011/12 campaign was the Belgium international’s most successful season to date – being named Ajax captain at the start and going on to lead the Dutch side to their second straight league title.

“The centre back’s impressive performances did not go unnoticed as he was named Eredivisie Player of the Year as well as Ajax’s Player of the Year in a season that saw him score 10 times in 37 appearances. In total, Jan made 220 appearances and scored 28 goals for Ajax since making his debut for them in 2006.”

  1. All good and in time for him to get used to the squad too.. ideal. I hope the rest of the additions are fairly soon so the whole squad can get to know one and others strengths and weaknesses and get to do set piece work ( which obviously hasn't happened for a while). They can run through AVB's tactical style of play and work on strategies for problem teams. There has to some improvisation but a generl style of play was missing at times last year.

  2. Great summer so far, some fantastic signings already, Vertonghen, Sigurdsson, & of course Bale & Caulker, great work so far, i feel with AVB controlling this squad we will really challenge next season, bring in cover for Brad, Diamo, & another top draw striker & we are sorted, if we can keep the Mod great, if not maybe Oscar or someone similar (preferably someone who can chip in with 12-15 goals from midfield) then happy days allround.
    COYS!!!!! Bring on the season…….

  3. Sorry to disagree with some of you guys but we need more defenders and midfielders rather than forwards

Sorry to spoil the party but read the following list and tell me it isn't depressing

King, gallas, Assou-ekotto, bassong, Bentley & jenas

Fresh start required, don't agree with loosing Harry but he lost the plot when his ego got the better of him over the England job. We need Dawson to return to form but the ones above should be part of spurs history not our future
