Finance expert explains why Spurs will not be worried about Paratici drama

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has said that Tottenham are well insured against any PR damage that might result from the allegations aimed at Fabio Paratici from his time at Juventus.

Paratici left Juventus to take over as Tottenham’s managing director of football 18 months ago, but the Serie A giants have since been accused of some dubious accounting practices.

In fact, the club’s board resigned en masse recently after allegations of artificially inflating transfer fees as part of a long-running capital gains scheme (Daily Mail).

Gazzetta dello Sport (as translated by Football Italia) reported two weeks ago that authorities in Turin have prepared an arrest warrant for 16 people, including Paratici and Juventus President Andrea Agnelli, over allegations that include false statements and false paperwork.

However, Maguire has now said that Daniel Levy will not be too bothered about these accusations as Paratici is not seen by the club’s commercial partners and sponsors as being one of the faces of Tottenham.

Maguire told Football Insider: “Spurs are one stepped removed in terms of Paratici and the fallout from Juventus. The club will feel it is relatively well insured from any damage to the club from an operational point of view.

“They have that firewall. He is not seen by commercial partners and sponsors as being one of the key figures at the club. I’m therefore sure that Daniel Levy will be able to sleep soundly at night.”

Tottenham would have known about these potential allegations long before they became public and the club would have likely done their due diligence on the matter before hiring Paratici 18 months ago.
