Fiorentina director speaks out on future of Spurs-linked Dusan Vlahovic

Fiorentina technical director Nicolas Burdisso has stated that the Serie A club are keen to extend the contract of rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Dusan Vlahovic.

Tottenham are thought to be in the market for a new striker, with Vlahovic being one of the names allegedly on Fabio Paratici’s radar.

The Serbian international, who netted 21 goals in the Serie A last campaign, has two years left to run on his contract at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

Spurs are thought to be competing with Atletico Madrid for Vlahovic, with the North Londoners alleged to have offered €60m (£51m) including bonuses for the centre-forward.

While there is still a question mark around Harry Kane’s future at Spurs, reports indicate that Vlahvoic is a target for the Lilywhites irrespective of whether the England captain stays or leaves.

However, Burdisso’s latest remark potentially comes as a blow for Tottenham in their pursuit of the 21-year-old, with the Fiorentina director admitting the club are working on extending the striker’s deal.

He said (via Sempre Inter): “We want to keep (Vlahovic) him and renew his contract. We’re continuing to work on this, the rest will be seen.”

If Fiorentina had no intention of selling Vlahovic, Spurs would have likely called off the race by now. We have obviously been given some encouragement by the Serie A club.

So Burdisso’s statement about a new contract could well be a negotiating tactic to get Spurs or Atletico to increase their offers for the Serbian.
