Fiorentina star linked with Tottenham move officially signs new contract

Fiorentina have now officially announced that Nikola Milenkovic has signed a new contract with the club amidst links with Tottenham in the transfer window.

The central defender, who can also play at right-back, has signed a new deal to keep him at the Serie A club until 2023. He was previously into the final 12 months of his deal.

It was reported by Firenze Viola recently that Tottenham were hoping to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu this summer, but would move to Milenkovic if such a move proved impossible.

The report said that Spurs would ‘return strongly’ for Milenkovic if they failed to land the Japanese international, however, with his new contract, signing the Serbian this summer would surely prove difficult.

However, Sky Sports also claimed that the North Londoners had moved on from Tomiyasu after hitting a roadblock in talks with Bologna, and were thus turning their attention to the Fiorentina defender.

Spurs Web Opinion:

While a move for Milenkovic would still not be impossible, it would no longer be a bargain. I am sure he has signed to stay one more year and move next summer. Perhaps Spurs are still confident of landing Tomiyasu.
