‘First contacts’ – Two Spanish sides are looking at Spurs winger

Bryan Gil is reportedly available for transfer, and both Sevilla and Real Sociedad are now thought to be fighting it out to acquire the young Spaniard from Tottenham Hotspur.

Over the last couple of years, recruitment at Tottenham appears to have improved dramatically, with a number of top players arriving at the club. Unfortunately, it seems Bryan Gil has been a rare miss for the Lilywhites in that period.

Gil joined Spurs in 2021, but has so far failed to complete a full season in North London, having been loaned out to Valencia and Sevilla for the second half of the last two campaigns.

This year, the 22-year-old has struggled to make an impact under Ange Postecoglou, and has been limited to cameo appearances from the bench for the most part. Gil has turned out ten times for Spurs this term, registering just 217 minutes on the pitch (Transfermarkt).

Is Bryan Gil set for a La Liga return?

It is now thought that Gil’s time at Spurs could be coming to an end, with Vamos Mi Sevilla claiming the player will be allowed to leave Tottenham for as little as €7-8m (£6-6.8m). This has opened up the door for his former club, Sevilla, to bring him back to Spain.

Now, the latest from the publication states that the La Liga side has made “advances in the hiring” of Gil, and it is thought Sevilla really “do not want to miss” the opportunity to be reunited with the winger.

However, with Real Sociedad also monitoring Gil’s situation currently, Sevilla have been keen to get “first contacts” underway in order to beat their league rivals to his signature. The issue is, Sevilla will need to get a player off their wage bill before they can sign Gil.

With the signing of Timo Werner and the potential arrival of Antonio Nusa in the summer, it just seems like Gil has no chance of succeeding at Spurs now. Hopefully, he can return to Spain and be more comfortable with a regular role at a club like Sevilla.
