Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, Maxi Araujo, has now openly discussed a move to England amid interest from Tottenham and Chelsea.

We reported earlier this month that Tottenham Hotspur had set their sights on a left-back with more goals than Randal Kolo Muani this season – Maxi Araujo.

The Sporting CP full-back has been in top form this campaign, scoring six goals and assisting a further four, with such performances catching the attention of both Chelsea and Spurs, who are said to have approached the 26-year-old.

The two English sides were handed the opportunity to watch their transfer target live when Uruguay took on England at Wembley Stadium on Friday night.

Tottenham transfer latest as Maxi Araujo drops England hint

The two national team sides drew 1-1 in the friendly matchup, and Araujo was on the pitch for 64 minutes before he was subbed off.

He did put in a somewhat solid display, grabbing a FotMob match rating of 5.3. During the encounter, he completed 8/9 passes, had 20 touches and was not dribbled past at all.

With the game now behind him, Araujo spoke to Uruguayan outlet El Espectador Deportes, where he opened up about playing in England for only the first time in his career, explaining that he wants it to be the first of many.

The Tottenham target said: “It will be my first time in England, let it be the first of many. It will be incredible, a huge opportunity, and I will make the most of it.”

The full-back, who is often used as a left back with Sporting, was deployed in a different role as a wingback with his country.

In the same interview, Araujo also addressed his role with Uruguay under Marcelo Bielsa, explaining a positional tweak following discussions with the manager.

He said, “I spoke with Marcelo [Bielsa], he told me to quickly change the chip. It will be more or less the same, but a bit further forward.”

Spurs target Maxi Araujo opens up on upcoming clash with Arsenal

Maxi Araujo will return to London soon with his club, as they prepare to face Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals on 15 April.

Spurs will do well to keep an eye on how their transfer target performs against their fiercest rivals in England.

Araujo is already looking ahead to that tie, admitting it will offer a chance to assess opponents he could soon face again at club level.

Speaking about the upcoming clash, the Tottenham target said: “We already faced them in the previous Champions League, but now we are in a very good moment. We will face them again.”
