‘First time in my career’ – Conte highlights ‘crazy’ Spurs fixture schedule this month

Antonio Conte has hit out at the fixture schedule Tottenham face this month as he leads his side out into their first Champions League match of the season.

Fixtures often come thick and fast for Premier League teams also fighting in Europe, but that is especially the case this season with the World Cup approaching in November.

Tottenham recently played three games in one week against Nottingham Forest, West Ham, and Fulham, coming away with two wins and a draw.

However, they face an even more testing six days this week as they face Marseille in the Champions League, followed by Man City away in the Premier League, and then Sporting Lisbon away.

Conte claimed he had never seen anything like this hectic schedule in his entire managerial career, but he will have to find away around the problem if he hopes to progress in both competitions.

He said (Football London): “Honestly to see this schedule about Tottenham is incredible.

“It’s crazy. We played three games in six days against Nottingham Forest, West Ham and Fulham, now we are playing after four days and then play three important games, vs Marseille, City away, Sporting Lisbon away in six days.

“Maybe the first time in my career to see schedule like this.”

He added (Charlie Eccleshare): “Compared to the other teams Tottenham have been penalised a lot. We have been unlucky.

“I’ve spoken to the club that we need to pay great attention to speak to the Premier League. One day more or less can completely change your life.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

The managers from the Big Six complain about this every year, and rightly so. The competition organisers push squads further and further each year in the pursuit of more games, more entertainment, and more money. But there will be a breaking point.
