‘First time in my life’ – Antonio Conte hits out at ‘strange’ NLD postponement decision

Antonio Conte has now given his opinion on the North London Derby postponement on Sunday, labelling it as a ‘strange’ decision from the Premier League.

The Spurs head coach also added that it was the first time in his career as a head coach that he had seen a game called off due to injuries.

The Lilywhites were due to face Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday but will now next be in action against Leicester City tomorrow night away from home.

The Gunners were missing players due to AFCON duty, suspension, loan moves and injuries, although only one team member tested positive for COVID-19.

Even so, the Premier League decided to approve Arsenal’s request for a postponement, much to the bemusement of Tottenham and the Spurs supporters’ trust.

It appears that Antonio Conte himself shares this sentiment, revealing that he and the club were disappointed and surprised by the decision.

He said (Football London): “I think the club made a statement and they showed our disappointment at the decision. It was a strange decision.

“I must admit that this is the first time in my life that a league postponed games due to injuries. I’m very surprised.”

He added: “My feeling is that when there is the situation to play you have to play. Normally to postpone games is due to international duty.

“We have a big problem to solve that is Covid, but only in this situation. For other situations, honestly, this is my first time in my life.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Honestly, I think everyone apart from a few Arsenal fans was surprised by the decision. It seemed to go completely against what the rules were put in place for, taking advantage of one single COVID case to get away with injuries, suspensions and loans.
