‘Fits the way we play’ – Postecoglou hints one player could get second chance at Spurs

Ange Postecoglou has admitted that he is a fan of Giovani Lo Celso and that the Argentine fits his system well.

Lo Celso has delivered two impressive performances in the second halves of the clashes against West Ham United and Lion City Sailors in the number eight role.

The Argentine scored in both matches and one can argue that he even outperformed the man he replaced at half-time in either game – new signing, James Maddison.

Over the last few weeks, there has been plenty of speculation linking Lo Celso with a move away from Tottenham, with the likes of Real Betis (Fabrizio Romano), Barcelona (Sport), Napoli (CalcioMercato) and Aston Villa (Estadio Deportivo) credited with an interest in the midfielder.

However, this morning, Mucho Deporte reported that Postecoglou had ‘convinced’ the 27-year-old to stick around at Tottenham.

When the Australian was asked about the reports emanating from Spain that Lo Celso is part of his plans, he responded following Tottenham’s 5-1 win over Lion City Sailors (via Football.London): “You don’t have to go to Spain mate. You can just ask me.

“Yeah, I like Gio. He fits the way we play. I enjoy working with him and he seems to enjoy working with us.”

That last line about Lo Celso enjoying working with the new coaching staff is a crucial one. If the Argentine is hungry to resurrect his Spurs career and fight for his place at the club, then there is no reason why he cannot become a key player under Postecoglou.
