Opinion: Five players who let the team down against Olympiacos in the Champions League

Tottenham Hotspur are up and running in the Champions League this season but they do not have as many points on the board as they would have liked.

After Harry Kane tucked away a penalty and Lucas Moura slammed home an excellent finish, Spurs looked to be coasting towards all three points.

However, defensive slips saw them concede just before half-time and again just after the break to hand Olympiacos a point from the jaws of defeat.

Let’s take a look at five players who let the side down:

Davinson Sanchez – Playing out of position is tough, but Sanchez just was not good enough today. There were acres of space for him to use and really hurt Olympiacos with but he failed to utilise this enough. He also played too narrowly defensively, letting the wingers in behind far too often. Looked exactly like a centre-back playing right-back.

Dele Alli – You could tell that Alli has not been back from injury for long. He was sloppy on the ball and sluggish in his movement, adding little to the attack at all. He also should have squared it to Harry Kane for an easy tap in at 2-2. I’m sure he will improve with game time, but not a good night.

Christian Eriksen – The worst game I have seen from this man in a long time. Did not look at it at all. Gave the ball away far too often and didn’t make the most of some easy potential passes that could have resulted in goals. Effort didn’t look to be there for me.

Tanguy Ndombele – His first start back from injury, so perhaps it is harsh to single him out, but Ndombele was poor tonight. He gave the ball away time and time again in dangerous positions for Spurs.

Ben Davies – Another one back from injury, Davies was given a torrid time by the Olympiacos number 10 all night. Didn’thave the pace or stamina to keep up. Again, hopefully, this will improve with game time.
