Five things we learned from the 2-2 draw in the North London Derby

It was honours even at the Emirates today as Tottenham and Arsenal drew 2-2 in the first North London Derby of the season.

Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane from the penalty spot put Spurs 2-0 up, but Arsenal clawed a result back through Lacazette and Aubameyang.

Let’s take a look at the five things we learned from the match –

Better from Spurs –

Things couldn’t get a whole lot worse for Tottenham after the Newcastle match, so the bar was set pretty low, but this was a better all-around performance. I would certainly say that it was Spurs’ best match of the season so far and they can count themselves unlucky not to come away with all three points. Let’s hope they can kick on from this.

Defending not good enough –

Tottenham looked good going forward today, but the issue with sloppy defending was still there for all to see, particularly in the flanks. Arsenal were able to get in behind time and time again. Their first goal came from Spurs’ reluctance to clear the ball and the second saw Aubameyang drift between defenders. Poch needs to sort this and soon!

Sanchez not a right-back –

I could have told you this before the match, but after that 90 minutes, I am certain that Sanchez cannot play at right-back. He was skinned time and time again out there, as well as sloppily giving the ball away. Even the stuff he should have been able to do well as a central defender, he struggled with and gifted Arsenal opportunities. The more I see this lad play, the less I am convinced.

Eriksen not leaving –

Playing and scoring in the North London Derby a day before the transfer deadline, I can confidently say that Eriksen is not going anywhere. Spurs need to get that new contract sorted now.

Tired Kane –

Harry Kane certainly looked to be struggling more than most towards the end of the match, begging the question as to whether the England captain is at full fitness. We have yet to see Kane at full-flow this season. However, that is saying something about his skill after he has still scored three goals and smacked the post today.
