Five things we learned from the 4-0 away win against Red Star Belgrade

Tottenham Hotspur recorded their first away win of the season tonight as they cruised to a 4-0 victory over Red Star Belgrade, who many assumed would be tricky opposition.

Let’s take a look at the five things we learned from the match:

Lo Celso over Eriksen –

I understand why Eriksen has been playing while Lo Celso increases his fitness and I get why Pochettino will still use him in rotation, however, Gio simply has to be first choice now. In just his first start, he was arguably the man of the match against Red Star, coming up with the opening goal and some fantastic creative play.

New signings –

For a brief 15 minutes at the end of the match, all three of Pochettino’s summer signings were on the pitch at the same time, something that has been lacking so far this season. Hopefully the fresh blood will shake the cobwebs off this stale Spurs side.

Away win and a clean sheet –

Away wins have been tough to come by for Tottenham in all competitions across 2019. This represented the club’s very first away win of the season and only their fourth clean sheet. Definitely a step in the right direction for Poch and the boys.

Gazzaniga looking good –

While 4-0 looks to tell the story, Gazzaniga certainly had a huge role to play at 0-0, keeping out a certain goal with his feet. He then made a fingertip save to stop another golden chance for Red Star, allowing the attacking players to take their time and play without the pressure of a deficit.

One win away –

A win at home to Olympiacos would now take Tottenham through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, handing them a much-needed free match away to Bayern Munich in game week six.
