Making a debut for Tottenham is a special moment for any young player, but some have managed to do it at an incredibly early age. From academy graduates to breakthrough talents, this article looks at the five youngest players to ever make their debut for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur have a strong history of giving young players the chance to step into the first team and show their quality at the highest level. This has often opened the door for academy players and rising talents to make their debut at a very young age.

For many supporters, that first appearance is always exciting because it signals the arrival of a new talent and brings hope for the future. In some cases, these players go on to build long careers at the club, while in others they are remembered for how early they were trusted with senior football.

That early trust is usually a sign of both talent and confidence from the coaching staff, as well as the club’s wider focus on developing young players. It also shows how important the academy pathway has been in shaping the team over the years.

Five youngest ever Tottenham Hotspur players

In more recent times, Tottenham have continued to rely on young talent when needed, even during periods where consistency has been an issue in the Premier League. Players like Archie Gray, who has already become an important part of the squad, and Lucas Bergvall, who has settled well, highlight how the pathway from academy to first team remains strong.

With that in mind, this article looks back at the youngest players who have ever made their debut for Tottenham, those who came through the academy and stepped onto the biggest stage, and how their careers developed after wearing the white shirt at such a young age.

5. Ally Dick – 16 years, 9 months, 26 days

Ally Dick was a young Scottish winger who rose quickly through the Tottenham Hotspur youth system in the early 1980s. He moved from the U16 side to the U18s and soon after earned a chance in the first team.

He made his debut on 20 February 1982 in a First Division match against Manchester City at White Hart Lane while still part of the youth setup. He started on the left side, with Glenn Hoddle playing in midfield, and Spurs won the game thanks to two goals from Hoddle.

That match marked the beginning of his senior career at the club, and he went on to make 17 First Division appearances for Tottenham before moving on. In 1986, he joined Ajax but found it difficult to break into their first team. He later played for several clubs before finishing his career with Alloa Athletic in the mid-1990s.

To have made his debut in 1982 and still be one of Tottenham’s youngest ever players is mightily impressive!

4. John Bostock – 16 years, 9 months, 22 days

John Bostock was another most highly rated young players in English football when he joined the Lilywhites from Crystal Palace in 2008. He was so highly regarded that many top clubs across Europe were tracking him at the time, and his potential made big headlines early in his career.

He made his Spurs debut in a 4-0 UEFA Cup win over GNK Dinamo Zagreb, becoming the club’s youngest ever player at the time. It was seen as the start of a big future, but breaking into a strong first-team squad proved difficult.

Despite the early promise, he struggled to secure regular football at Tottenham and spent time on several loan moves as he looked to develop and find consistency. Over time, his career took him away from North London as he searched for more opportunities.

After leaving Spurs, he went on a long football journey across Belgium, France and Turkey before later returning to England, where he helped Notts County achieve promotion back to the Football League.

3. Mikey Moore – 16 years, 9 months, 3 days

Mikey Moore is one of the most exciting young talents at Spurs and is still viewed as a future star at the club, even though he only recently made his first-team debut.

That moment came in May 2024 when he was brought on late in a Premier League match against Manchester City. With City already leading 2-0 and controlling the game, there was little time for him to make an impact, but it was still a big step in his career as he became the youngest player to feature for Spurs in the Premier League.

From that point, he gradually became more involved with the first team before moving out on loan to continue his development and gain regular senior football. He went on to make 21 appearances for Tottenham before joining Rangers, where he has been playing regularly, and so far this term has contributed seven goals and assisted two in 32 games. Moore is also keen to break into the first team at Tottenham and will be looking to impress Roberto De Zerbi when he returns this summer.

2. Dane Scarlett – 16 years, 8 months, 2 days

Dane Scarlett broke into the Tottenham Hotspur first team during the 2020 lockdown season, when the squad already had strong attacking options like Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura. Even with that competition, he was trusted at a very young age, which showed how highly he was rated.

That trust was clear when he made his debut in the Europa League against Ludogorets, coming off the bench in a 4-0 win. It surprised many at the time, but it also showed the confidence the coaching staff had in his ability. Not long after, he made history in Europe by becoming one of the youngest players to register an assist in the competition, setting up a goal in another European match.

Building on those early moments, Jose Mourinho once described him as a “diamond” that needed polishing, and his progress has continued step by step since then. He was also part of the squad during Tottenham’s Europa League success in 2025 and contributed with important moments along the way.

From there, his development has come through loan spells at clubs like Ipswich and Oxford United before moving to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership. In the 2025/26 season, he has been getting regular minutes, scoring goals and gaining valuable experience in senior football, while also sharing that loan environment with fellow Spurs youngster Mikey Moore.

1. Alfie Devine – 16 years, 5 months, 9 days

Alfie Devine made history by becoming Tottenham Hotspur’s youngest ever player, breaking the record in style. He joined from Wigan Athletic’s academy and was quickly brought into the first team setup under Jose Mourinho.

He made an immediate impact on his debut against Marine in the 2021 FA Cup by scoring a calm finish from a tight angle. That goal also made him the club’s youngest ever goal scorer and gave him a dream start to his Spurs career.

After that breakthrough moment, he continued his development away from the first team through loan spells designed to give him regular playing time. These moves helped him gain valuable experience and grow as a midfielder.

That progress has continued in recent seasons, with a strong loan spell at Preston North End in the Championship where he became a regular starter. Now 21-years-old, he has scored eight goals and provided six assists this season, including a standout performance where he scored twice against Stoke City in March 2026.
