‘Football is passion’ – Antonio Conte breaks his silence after Spurs sacking

Antonio Conte has broken his silence after being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur yesterday, taking the time to thank certain people at the club, as well as the fans.

The Italian was a popular figure in North London for his first season in charge, as he brought a sense of passion to the touchline, not to mention improved results on the pitch.

Spurs stormed their way to a top-four finish after the successful January signings of Bentancur and Kulusevski, overtaking bitter rivals Arsenal in the last few weeks of the season.

However, Conte was unable to replicate that form in his second year at Tottenham, and recent performances had been flat and inconsistent prior to his sacking.

Former assistant head coach Cristian Stellini will now lead the side for the rest of the campaign, while Ryan Mason will step up to the assistant role (Tottenham).

Conte has now taken to Instagram to send a message to the Spurs staff, players, and fans. He wrote:

‘Football is passion. I would like to deeply thank everyone at SPURS who appreciated and shared my passion and my intense way of living football as a coach.

‘A special thought to the Fans who always showed me support and appreciation, it’s been unforgettable to hear them singing my name.

‘Our journey together has ended, I wish you all the best for the future. Antonio.’

Spurs Web Opinion:

This appears to be both a thank you to the fans and some of the players/staff, but also a dig at others.

His wording implies that some at the club did not share his passion and intensity, which is perhaps Tottenham’s long-term problem.
