Football journalist claims Alderweireld’s new wage isn’t as high as first reported

As every Spurs fan will have already seen today, Toby Alderweireld has put pen to paper on a new deal with the club he has been at since 2015.

Alderweireld’s contract was previously set to run out at the end of this season, begging the question of a free transfer, but his new deal will keep him in North London until 2023.

The Belgian centre-back has started every single game under the new head coach Mourinho since he arrived last month.

It was reported by the Daily Mail and other publications that Alderweireld was only on around £50,000 per week on his old contract, a value that has now gone up to £150,000.

However, football journalist from The Athletic, Charlie Eccleshare, has now claimed that the initially reported figure is not accurate.

He reports that Alderweireld is on around £100,000 per week rather than the reported £150,000, which probably seems more believable on Daniel Levy’s part.

Either way, what a signing for Spurs!
