It emerged yesterday that Tottenham are apparently attempting to hijack Arsenal’s move for 18-year-old St-Etienne centre-back, William Saliba, this summer.
The Guardian claim that the Gunners had the deal all but sealed after agreeing a five-year contract with Saliba and being just a few minor details from securing an agreement with the French club.
However, RMC reported that Tottenham came in late with a more attractive €30m bid for the teenager, which could include a loan back to St-Etienne for the next season.
Saliba could be seen as a long-term replacement for Toby Alderweireld, as the Belgian defender has just one year remaining on his contract in North London.
The 18-year-old would join fellow young defenders Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth at Spurs.
Football journalist for Yahoo Sport France, Manu Lonjon, has now claimed that not only are Spurs trying to overtake their North London rivals in the deal, but Wolverhampton Wanderers are also said to be lurking.
