Football journalist claims transfer deal is not as close as some may have thought

Vincent Janssen has been linked with a Tottenham exit for a long time after failing to impress in north London during his three-year stay branched with loan spells in Turkey.

The Dutch international has made 31 appearances for the Lilywhites, finding the net only twice.

He spent the 2017/18 campaign on loan with Fenerbahce and missed the majority of last season with a foot injury, seeing only 36 minutes of Premier League action.

A considerable number of Spurs fans would like to see the 25-year-old striker go as it would result in offloading the wage bill and simply getting rid of a player who, despite a lot of support from the Tottenham fan base, disappointed on the English soil.

And, there seemed to be some exciting news coming in regarding the former AZ Alkmaar player’s future.

Belgian newspaper HLN seemed to have reported that Anderlecht’s deal to sign Vincent Janssen was ‘almost done’, after RSCA sporting director Michael Verschueren claimed, “we’re almost there”.

A number of football websites picked up the story, re-reporting that Janssen could be on his way to Belgium very soon, without acknowledging a possible error in translation.

The excitement, however, did not last very long, after a respected Belgian football journalist Kristof Terreur stated on Twitter that: “’We are close’ was the sporting director talking about transfers in general – the question about Janssen wasn’t even asked.”

Janssen’s future still remains uncertain with a number of clubs reportedly interested in signing the striker. It is, however, very unlikely that Mauricio Pochettino would like to keep him for next season.
