Football journalist reveals clever reasons why Spurs left deals until late in the window

Tottenham Hotspur announced two signings within half an hour of each other this evening, right at the end of the summer transfer window.

We all know that Daniel Levy loves a last-minute deal, but why did Tottenham leave it so late to secure Lo Celso and Sessegnon?

Alasdair Gold believes he has the answer, and it actually makes a whole lot of sense when you think about it.

The upside to leaving deals until late is that you often get a better price, with the major downside being that you don’t have the time to bed the players into the squad or give them a proper pre-season.

However, with Lo Celso away at the Copa America with Argentina and Sessegnon struggling with injury, Spurs were left with no real benefit of going in early.

Instead, they left it late and probably got better deals for it.

Clever from Levy.
