‘For sure he’s out’ – Conte gives assessment of Richarlison’s injury

Following Tottenham’s win over Everton on Saturday, Antonio Conte has said that he is sure Richarlison will not be fit for his side’s trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Richarlison started alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-min upfront for Spurs against Everton amidst Dejan Kulusevski’s injury absence.

The Brazilian put in a typically energetic display against his former side but he went down with a calf injury on 52 minutes and had to be replaced.

Conte’s decision to bring on Yves Bissouma for the 25-year-old and change the system to a 3-5-2 worked wonders for the home side, who dominated proceedings in the second half and emerged comfortable 2-0 winners.

Richarlison was pictured in crutches after the game and admitted that he is concerned that the injury will keep him out of the World Cup starting next month (ESPN).

Conte stated after the game that the striker will have to undergo a scan to determine the extent of the injury but he ruled the striker out of Tottenham’s next match against Manchester United.

When asked how serious Richarlison’s injury is, the Spurs boss told Football.London: “Yeah for sure he’s out against Manchester United, for sure. He felt something in his calf and he won’t be available for that game. I don’t know but I think he needs a bit of time to recover.

“It’s a pity because we are talking about a player that gives us a lot of quality but at the same time also is strong and he improves our intensity. The problem with Kulusevski also needs time to recover.

“Fingers crossed for the next games because we have to play many many games in a short period. If you have the squad penalised with injuries it becomes a bit difficult but today we showed that we are ready to overcome every difficulty.”

The injury does not look good and one would expect Richarlison to be out of action for a couple of weeks at least. Thankfully, we will be able to cope, now that Moura is back and Kulusevski seems close to being available.

I am desperately hoping that the 25-year-old returns to action before the World Cup as he has worked hard to establish himself as the Selecao’s number nine, and it will be heartbreaking for him to not feature in the tournament.
