Former Arsenal man believes former side can secure bragging rights over Spurs

Former Arsenal defender Johan Djourou has backed the Gunners to secure a top four place in the Premier League and finish above Tottenham Hotspur this season.

It was only a few weeks ago that Mikel Arteta’s job looked to be on the line, with some suggesting that Arsenal were in a relegation fight.

However, since then they have managed to turn things around with three straight wins in the league, which has pushed them up to eleventh in the table.

The Gunners now sit just six points behind their North London rivals but Spurs do have a game in hand, which they will play this evening against Fulham.

Arsenal were Champions League regulars during Djourou’s time at the Emirates but the club have finished outside the top four for the last four seasons in a row.

The 33-year-old, who now plays for Danish club FC Nordsjaelland, believes that his former side can get back into the top four after turning their form around.

When asked to predict the top four, the centre-back wrote on his Instagram story on Saturday: “That a tough one. Let me think… Liverpool, City, Arsenal and Tottenham.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It was just a few weeks ago that pundits were backing Chelsea as favourites for the title, while also calling for Arteta’s head. The fact that the narrative has changed so quickly shows how closely contested the league is this season. A couple of decent results can make a huge difference, which is why it is impossible to predict anything at the moment despite the fact that we are almost halfway through the season.
