Former Arsenal midfielder says Tottenham could face another trophyless season come Sunday

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed yesterday that Dele Alli will be out of action until March with a hamstring strain.

This injury news comes at a time when England captain Harry Kane is already nursing an ankle injury and Heung-Min Son is away on international duty with South Korea as the Asian Cup.

This injury pile-up couldn’t come at a worse time for Spurs, as they are just entering a crucial phase of their season. Both Kane and Alli will miss the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea tomorrow evening, along with the potential final. Additionally, they will also be out for Tottenham’s Champions League tie against Dortmund coming up next month.

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson believes that the injuries could cost Spurs big time and that the Lillywhites could find themselves facing another trophyless season by Sunday. He claimed that Spurs have no chance of winning the Premier League or the Champions League and could find themselves out of both the League Cup and the FA Cup come Sunday evening.

Following the Carabao Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge, Tottenham travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday for a fourth-round FA Cup tie.

Speaking to Sky Sports’ The Debate, Merson said, “This could be another season without a trophy (for Spurs) come Sunday. It can happen that quickly.”

“These two games are massive. These are the two trophies they should go for. If I was a Tottenham fan, I would want to win one of these.”

“The injuries haven’t come at the right time. The League games look nice but they could be out of every competition by Sunday”
