Former Arsenal player Samir Nasri offers advice to midfielder linked with Spurs

Former Arsenal and Manchester City star Samir Nasri has urged Marseille midfielder Maxime Lopez who is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar this summer to move out of his comfort zone and take more risks.

The 22-year-old,who has made over a 100 appearance for Marseille, has been one of the most consistent performers in Ligue 1 over the past few seasons.

The Daily Star reported last month that Lopez who has just over a year left to run on his current contract in France was offered to Spurs after talks over a new deal had stalled.

Estadio Deportivo (via Sport Witness) claimed however that the Frenchman prefers a move to La Liga over the Premier League.

Despite winning many admirers there is a feeling that Lopez has not quite lived up to his early promise.

The youngster was highly regarded while coming through Marseille’s academy, and Nasri who also came through the club’s ranks before starring in the Premier League, has urged him to be braver on the pitch.

Speaking to Le10 Sport, the former Arsenal midfielder said about Lopez: “I would ask him to take more risks. He plays with too much comfort. He has the ability to pass.”

I believe Nasri is spot on in his criticism of Lopez as the Frenchman is often too conservative in his passing. That is not a great asset for an attacking midfielder and his numbers over the last few seasons bare out the fact that he is not nearly as effective in the final third as others who play in his position. That is why I do not believe he will be the right option for us.
