Former Arsenal star accuses Spurs player of ‘not doing anything’ during defeat

Jose Mourinho decided to start a strong attacking trip of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Gareth Bale for the North London derby against Arsenal yesterday afternoon.

The Welshman came back into the starting eleven after he was left on the bench in Thursday’s 2-0 win against Dinamo Zagreb, instead coming off the bench for the final 26 minutes of the Europa League tie.

While many Spurs fans would have expected to have seen a refreshed and energised display from Bale, he was somewhat of a disappointment with former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon claiming that the 31-year-old was failing to work back and help his side when they were not in possession of the ball.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho decided to bring off the on-loan Real Madrid man after 57 minutes of the 2-1 defeat at the Emirates and admitted after the match that one of the reasons for the substitution was that he wanted more intensity, expecting his players to press the Gunners more (Football.London).

Dixon said during his co-commentary duties while the match was unfolding on NBC Sports (13/3): “I’m watching Gareth Bale the last five minutes or so and his movement is so laboured. He’s just walking around, not doing anything for his team when they haven’t got the ball. His contribution is really poor at the moment.”
