Former Chelsea star makes alarming prediction about Spurs under Mourinho

Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has claimed that it might take Jose Mourinho 18 months to fix the issues with the current Spurs squad.

The 56-year-old made a fine start to his career as Spurs head coach after replacing Mauricio Pochettino in November by immediately helping to turn results around.

However, that early momentum has now fallen away as the Lilywhites find themselves without a win in their last four Premier League games.

With Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko both expected to be out until April, it looks like Spurs face a massive uphill battle to finish in the top four this season.

Cole, who played under Mourinho at Chelsea believes that the Spurs boss is still trying to find his best combination as he goes about fixing the problems that were present under his predecessor.

Speaking to BT Sport during the live coverage of Watford v Spurs on 18/1/20 from 11:00 (as relayed by Football.London): Cole said: “He is searching for his best team and his best balance. I don’t think we have really appreciated how bad it was under Mauricio Pochettino in his last few weeks at the club.

“Jose Mourinho has got a really difficult job on his hands. I think this is a job where it’s going to take him 18 months to find what his best Tottenham team is.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I too believe that many Spurs fans seem to have forgotten how terrible we were in the final couple of months under Pochettino. We looked physically, mentally and tactically inept in the last few games under the Argentine. Mourinho was never going to come in and change things overnight. We need to back him and give him the time he needs to reshape this squad in his own image.
