Former Chelsea star makes alarming prediction about Spurs under Mourinho

Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has claimed that it might take Jose Mourinho 18 months to fix the issues with the current Spurs squad.

The 56-year-old made a fine start to his career as Spurs head coach after replacing Mauricio Pochettino in November by immediately helping to turn results around.

However, that early momentum has now fallen away as the Lilywhites find themselves without a win in their last four Premier League games.

With Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko both expected to be out until April, it looks like Spurs face a massive uphill battle to finish in the top four this season.

Cole, who played under Mourinho at Chelsea believes that the Spurs boss is still trying to find his best combination as he goes about fixing the problems that were present under his predecessor.

Speaking to BT Sport during the live coverage of Watford v Spurs on 18/1/20 from 11:00 (as relayed by Football.London): Cole said: “He is searching for his best team and his best balance. I don’t think we have really appreciated how bad it was under Mauricio Pochettino in his last few weeks at the club.

“Jose Mourinho has got a really difficult job on his hands. I think this is a job where it’s going to take him 18 months to find what his best Tottenham team is.”

I too believe that many Spurs fans seem to have forgotten how terrible we were in the final couple of months under Pochettino. We looked physically, mentally and tactically inept in the last few games under the Argentine. Mourinho was never going to come in and change things overnight. We need to back him and give him the time he needs to reshape this squad in his own image.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Look again I will say it we will win nothing this year and finish in 12th or 13th in the league. This will have an adverse affect on some of our so called bigger stars who will want to leave. Levy will demand crazy money so the eriksen thing will start again on a much larger scale. Jose who lets face it will win either way because if we continue to fail under him like united did he will walk away with another pay off and Levy will appoint another five year plan man. More years of nothing under enic, great stadium great training facilities but no trophies. No real money invested in the players which is the Levy and enic way. While big clubs like wolves, Sheffield, Leicester and Liverpool grow we who have missed our chance will crumble under enic and their debts.
