Former coach slams reported Spurs target for doing ‘100 per cent to ruin his career’

A former coach of reported Spurs target Luka Jovic has accused the striker of sabotaging his own career after a big-money move to Real Madrid.

Jovic has failed to hit the expected heights in Spain this season, having found the net just twice for Real Madrid (transfermarkt) after they paid in excess of £50 million (Independent) to sign him from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer.

The Mirror reported last week that Madrid are keen to offload the 22-year-old when the transfer market reopens in the summer.

It is said that his relationship with the club took a hit when the striker refused to self-isolate as requested this month. The 22-year-old instead returned to Serbia and was seen on the streets of Belgrade and at his girlfriend’s birthday party (The Sun).

The Daily Mail claims that the Real Madrid star is now under investigation and could face jail time for breaking the rules.

Jovic’s former coach at Frankfurt Dragoslav Stepanovic has blasted the striker for his latest mistake. Speaking to Kurir, Stepanovic said: “He is the only man who does 100 per cent to ruin his career.

“Jovic works against himself. He was lucky that Adi Hutter gave him a shot at Eintracht and then made the biggest transfer in Serbia’s history and went to Madrid. I can’t believe what the boy is doing to himself.

“I read the media in Serbia and I know what life he had, that as a child he slept in his car with his father to wait until morning to train.

“What a sacrifice he made, and then this. I don’t know, Luka obviously doesn’t think about himself.

“When they tell you it’s a ban (self-isolation) you pretend you didn’t understand anything. You better shut up, don’t talk. I can’t believe he did something like this.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Jovic was being extremely selfish and careless by not following the rules on self-isolation. While I certainly think he could be a great option for us, he looks like he has an attitude problem. However, Jose has proven in the past that he can get the best out of some seemingly bad eggs.
