Former defender claims in-form forward would be a good signing for Spurs

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Alan Hutton believes that the club would be doing smart business if they signed Jarrod Bowen.

The Hull City attacker would be a good fit for the Champions League finalists according to Hutton, who has come up against the 22-year-old on more than one occasion during his time in the Championship with Aston Villa.

Bowen has been the Tigers’ top scorer for the past two seasons, and has already found the back of the net on 16 occasions in the current Championship campaign (transfermarkt).

Hutton has highlighted Bowen’s consistency over the past two campaigns as proof enough that his form is consistent enough to prove that he would be a good addition to the squad.

Spurs are currently without a back up for Harry Kane following the double summer exit of Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente.

Jose Mourinho decided to utilise Lucas Moura as the man up top in the absence of Kane for the recent 3-1 defeat at Bayern Munich, with the Brazilian’s strengths being more suited to playing in behind the defence rather than as a player to hold up possession.

Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he is an excellent player, played against him a number of times.

“I think Tottenham were interested in him before, to be honest, and he was brilliant last season as well.

“So this isn’t just a flash in pan, played against him for multiple seasons and he was a very tough opponent.

“It doesn’t surprise me that they’re interested, I think he’ll be a good addition to the Tottenham team as he’s young, hungry, scoring goals and I think he fits into the mould of a Tottenham player.

“As he can play in a front three so I think it will be a really good signing for them.”
