Former Egypt international striker, Abdel Sattar Sabry, has claimed that Jose Mourinho wanted him to join his backroom staff at Tottenham Hotspur.
Mourinho’s time at Tottenham certainly did not prove to be a happy marriage, either for the North London club or the Portuguese coach.
The 58-year-old joined under mitigating circumstances that likely affected performances after he took over from Mauricio Pochettino in the middle of the 2019/20 season, as the pandemic forced the campaign to be suspended before resuming a few months later.
However, things went from bad to worse in his first full season in charge after a promising start, with Mourinho eventually being relieved of his duties in April.
Tottenham fell to a disappointing seventh-place finish last campaign, the first time the club had finished outside of the top six since 2009.
However, Mourinho has had a positive start to his time in charge of Roma, with the Giallorossi having won three of their four Serie A games so far this season.
The report claims that Sabry could be part of the Special One’s team and the Egyptian himself is quoted as saying in the report that he could have joined Mourinho in N17 as well.
The former Benfica midfielder said: “Mourinho already wanted me at Tottenham. I await an answer in a few days (on joining him at Roma).”
Spurs Web Opinion
Despite how things went pearshaped for Spurs under Jose last season, I do not have any ill feelings towards the former Tottenham boss.
I genuinely hope he succeeds at Roma since his passion and love for the game are still undeniably there, even though there are question marks over whether his methods are still as effective as they once were.
