Former England coach hails Tottenham’s ‘creative genius’

Former Tottenham winger Peter Taylor has hailed midfielder Christian Eriksen and called the Dane a ‘creative genius’

The midfielder was heavily linked with a move away from the club all summer after admitting that he would like to try a new challenge at the end of last season (Ekstra Bladet).

Pochettino also was vocal about his worries that the Dane might leave before the close of the transfer window (the Telegraph). Thankfully for Spurs, the 27-year-old ended up staying beyond the September 2nd deadline.

Peter Taylor said that the club will be delighted that they managed to hang on to him. The wide man, who played for Spurs between 1976 and 1980, also insisted that Tottenham’s performance against Palace was the perfect response after a disappointing start to the season.

Speaking to the Sun (16 September, Goals pull-out, page 9), the 66-year-old said, “I’m sure everyone at the Lane is delighted that European transfer window has closed and the creative genius of Christian Eriksen is still there.”

“They haven’t had the sort of start to the season that they would have liked but banging in four goals in the first half on Saturday was the perfect response.”

With Eriksen now into the final year of his contract, Tottenham could lose him for nothing next summer if they don’t sell him in January. Marca report that the former Ajax man is determined to reject every contract offers from Spurs as he has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid.

It was certainly a boost for Spurs that Eriksen ended up staying, even if it might be just for a few months. If Spurs sell the midfielder in January, they need to replace him with world class talent , even if it is not a like for like replacement in his position.
