Former England star hopes Sol Campbell will manage Tottenham

Former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Ince hopes that Sol Campbell will get the opportunity to manage Tottenham Hotspur in the future.

Campbell, who is a hated figure among Tottenham fans for walking out on the club for free before joining rivals Arsenal has been appointed as the new manager of League Two outfit Macclesfield, signing an 18-month contract.

The central defender had vowed that he would remain at White Hart Lane after dismissing speculation that he could leave on a free transfer.

He told the Daily Mail at the time: “I’m going nowhere.”

“I want to play for Tottenham – that’s it. I’ve been here for so long and there’s no reason to think I would want to leave

“For me to do well at this club would mean everything. I play for Spurs with a passion and desire, and it hurts me when we lose.”

Ince’s comments are absolutely staggering considering what Campbell did to Tottenham and has previously stated that he has no regrets (Express) over misleading the club and the supporters at the time.

To this very day, Tottenham fans are known to sing about their hatred of the man they call Judas. There is no shadow of a doubt that club officials and supporters would never allow Campbell back at the club in any capacity.

“It is a shame because when you look at what he has done in his football career, he is a legend,” Ince told Sky Sports. “It is sad that someone like Sol has had to go to that level to get a job.

“When you look at the black managers that we have had, most of them have been very successful. It is not that we can’t do the job but obviously some owners think we can’t.

“It is going to be a tough job for Sol but you have got to get in somewhere. Hopefully he will do well and then move up the ladder.

“The most nervous thing is having to inspire a team to get them out of trouble. I would advise him to take someone with him that knows the league.

“The lads will be buzzing once they see Sol there. He has got a good football brain, who knows in years to come he might be managing Tottenham, fingers crossed.”
