Former Liverpool player linked with Spurs has been on the decline claims ex-pro

Former Chelsea midfielder Alan Hudson believes that rumoured Tottenham target Philippe Coutinho has been a broken man since leaving Liverpool and compared the midfielder’s downward trajectory to that of Alexis Sanchez at Manchester United.

Coutinho has failed to live up to expectations since his big-money move to the Camp Nou and was subsequently loaned out to Bayern Munich this season with reports suggesting that the Bundesliga giants will not take up the option to buy him permanently at the end of the campaign (Mirror).

Tottenham and Chelsea are both said to have registered an interest and have made contact with the Brazilian’s agent, Kia Joorabchian (Italian journalist Nicolo Schira).

Football.London have suggested that the 27-year-old could even be made available on loan this summer with no club likely to meet the Catalan’s asking price.

However, Hudson feels that the Barcelona star is on the decline and there question marks over whether his form is something of an issue.

Speaking about Coutinho, Hudson told CaughtOffside: “I think there’s been something wrong with him (Coutinho) since leaving Liverpool where he was sensational.

“The questions far outweigh the answers, and for me, his form has been in a decline similar to Alexis Sanchez after leaving Arsenal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Coutinho was unbelievably shocking at Barcelona immediately following his move, I feel he started to show glimpses of his former self on loan at Bayern. A return to the Premier League might be what he needs to rediscover his form but I don’t expect Tottenham to move for him as he doesn’t feel like a typical Jose signing.
